Cultural Tour Program

Our exciting Cultural Tour Program consists of a base program and several optional activities.
Base program includes the activities described below. Participants are also welcome to learn Senegalese cooking or take one dance class per day at no additional charge.

There's something for everybody!

Discover the Land of Teranga!

Plunge into the heart of Senegalese culture. Cultural Tour Program participants take two Wolof classes per day (or one extended lesson), so come ready to learn basic greetings and conversations in the most commonly spoken language of Senegal.

Meet and greet! Senegal is famous for teranga (hospitality). The first Saturday is spent getting to know a local family, and the second Saturday we travel to Goree Island in Dakar, where we will visit La Maison des Esclaves—the fortress where enslaved Africans were held just prior to being shipped out to the Americas. Additional events include nightly gatherings with local artists and a market day organized at the residence.

Explore Toubab Dialaw! L'Engouement is situated on the outskirts of Toubab Dialaw village, a quiet community far away from the noise and bustle of city life. Walk to the beach and swim in the Atlantic or enjoy the pool in at the residence. Hang out in the hammocks and daydream. Feel the energy of the baobabs during one early morning meditative walk to the forest of baobabs. Shop at Sobo Bade. Attend local performances. Enjoy life!

Customize your program according to your interests! For an additional fee, a la carte activites can be added to your base program.
